Sustainable Energy

There are ongoing concerns about the sustainability of fossil fuels which has encouraged the uptake of renewable energy sources. A sustainable energy source is one that is not substantially reduced with ongoing use, does not produce pollutant emissions or does not involve substantial health or social problems. Clean Energy is the way of the future to ensure life cycles are not accelerated. The use of renewable energy assists in the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

The use of coal fired power plants in Australia contributed majorly towards greenhouse gas emissions every year. The coal fired generators supply electricity to the main grid network in Australia providing power to all properties. In recent times the coal generators have been working on energy efficiency of the generation and carbon capture but the costs are large compared to recent drops of renewable energy pricing.

Solar, Wind, Geothermal Energy, Tidal, Hydro.

Solar Energy: Solar energy is energy which is sourced from the sun. The various forms are; the heating of water (thermal) and solar photovoltaic (converts sun’s energy to electricity). Examples of the above is heating of a solar collector to use in a domestic, industrial or commercial aspect. In a domestic example solar collectors are used to collect the energy of the sun to heat water. The heated water is then cycled into a larger storage tank to be used at convenience. The solar collectors come in various forms such as flat panels or evacuated tubes.

The commercialise form of thermal energy is when a large number of reflectors are centred onto a central position and superheated. The superheated energy source can then be used to drive a turbine to produce electricity.

Geothermal Energy: Geothermal energy is the energy which is produced by the huge temperature difference between the surface of the earth and the interior: the temperature at the centre of the earth is around 7000 degrees celsius. There are 2 reasons why the earth is such a high temperature: first is when the earth frmed 4600 illion years ago the interior was heated rapidly as the kinetic and gravitational energy of accreting material was converted into heat. If this was the only factor the earth would have cooled in 100 million years but the second factor was the earth contains many tiny log-lived radioactive isotypes.

Energy Audits

A ENERGY AUDIT SHALL IDENTIFY WHERE THERE ARE ENERGY FLOWS

The major systems that produce electricity are identified and then analyses can be conducted to identify if there are areas of energy conservation.

The energy audit will confirm where energy savings may be made.

Extending on from the energy audit other forms of renewable may be checked to see if the paybacks meet the customers financial plans.

A commercial energy audit is at times in depth to ensure a close relationship of unit usage to overall usage is established. Data monitoring equipment is used to define individual unit usage. Once all the energy is accounted for the energy audit can then determine how savings can be made.

The latest building codes are pushing for ongoing energy efficiency to ensure electricity usage is not accelerated by in-efficient building practises. Energy consumption is important to ensure sustainability businesses.

A house energy audit looks at all areas of the home where energy is used or produced. Many people have numerous appliances which consume energy and without the personal knowledge of the consumption. Households should reduce the number of fridges and freezers if possible and be mindful of usage at all times.

An energy assessment shall show where the usage of energy is coming from and shall be followed though with means energy savings such as: Installing solar panels, reducing number of fridges, installing led lighting, installing solar lighting, installing solar pool pumps, installing energy monitoring.

An electrical energy audit is similar to a energy assessment or energy audit. The only difference is that a electrical energy audit looks at only the electrical apparatus for savings to be had.
